We are thankful for another year of safety on the road, all our wonderful friends and family, and a great cabin to spend the holidays in! With the whirlwind of studio work and filming wrapped up, we are blessed to be recuperating at an out-of-the-way cabin owned by some friends of ours. It is a wonderful respite from the road and a time of renewal for all of us. Jonathan and Elliot are enjoying helping me keep our wood stoves going, Patsy is enjoying the large kitchen, we are all enjoying eating at the table together, and the children are especially thrilled to have their own bunks that don’t need to be put away in the morning!
We just spent a wonderful Thanksgiving with two of my brothers, my sister-in-law, and my parents. It was a treat to be able to host everyone for the feast and overnight visit. Everyone enjoyed the food and time relaxing together, that is when I wasn’t putting my brothers and Dad to work chopping wood and moving stoves around. Below you can see my brothers, Dad, son Jonathan and me having some fun outside and in. Jonathan is the current Monopoly champion. :)
Jonathan Being Interviewed
Published September 9, 2008 Family Life , Family News , Music News Leave a CommentWe just finished up filming the on-the-road portion for an upcoming documentary to be released by Franklin Springs Family Media later this year! It was actually a lot of fun having two camera men trail us for several days. In addition to shooting life on the road, they conducted several interviews. Since they didn’t prep us, we are eager to see what happens in the final edit! In October, they plan to film a live concert, and the final product will weave all the footage together. In the meantime, here is a picture of Jonathan’s interview – can’t wait to see that one! His comment when it was finished: “I always wanted to wear one of those little microphones, and I finally got to!”
Nope, we have not converted, but we did visit an interesting worship service with a great friend who is a member of the Eastern Orthodox church in Wichita, KS. Actually, they call it Divine Liturgy. The Eastern Orthodox folks have different terms for most everything, we found out. It was a beautiful service, with pageantry, reverence, something to engage almost every sense, and, in many ways, quite worshipful. Sure, I have questions about the theology, some of the practice, and some of the results of such an approach, but one of the things I count valuable as we travel is that Patsy and I, and mostly our children, get a wide view of the Kingdom. I’m not saying that everyone is right (that’s impossible), but I suspect that many denominations and churches glorify God in some way. And furthermore, I think we can learn a lot from coming into contact with differing traditions, approaches, and styles of worship.
Just a week ago Jonathan & Elaine were able to take part in the well known musical, The Mikado. It was a wonderful time for them. Jonathan had a very fun part, and much to our surprise Elaine ended up with the lead! They both learned a bunch of music, a little about acting, and a lot about getting quite tired with late rehearsals. I know they will have more to say on the subject, but here is a pic of Elaine delivering a line….

Giving a Line!
